Mr. Joza Vrljieak from Buenos Aires, Argentina, participated in the First Meeting of the Advisory Council to the Government of the Republic of Croatia for Croats Living Abroad, which was held in Zagreb on 18th to 20th December 2013. The Council was established by Croatian law in 2012 and it is formed by 55 representatives of Croatians from around the globe.

Srdjan Bulat to give recital at the Royal Academy of Music in London on January 7, 2014
Classical guitarist, Srdjan Bulat will be holding a recital at the Royal Academy of Music in London, on Tuesday January 7, 2014. The recital will be held at the David Josefowitz Recital Hall and will start at 6:00 p.m. admission is free. Bulat, a post graduate student at the Royal Academy of Music will be performing works by Croatian composers.
Miro Gavran's world premiere of "HOW TO STEAL A WIFE" in Vilnius in Lithuania adapted from his comedy
The world premiere of the film “How to Steal a Wife”, which was adapted from Miro Gavran’s theatre comedy “Henpecked Husbands”, is scheduled for December 20th in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The producer is LITL BAZ PICTURES from Vilnius. The director is the young, but exceptionally successful Donatas Ulvydas. Shortly after its release in Vilnius, the film will play in theaters in America and Europe, so screenings are already lined up in Chicago, London, Oslo, Copenhagen, Bergen … Very recently Miro Gavran had premieres in Slovakia, Czechia and in Russia.

Joza Vrljieak sent us numerous video recordings and photos concerning the Croatian Day celebrated in Argentinean capital Buenos Aires, in November 2013. It is estmated that there are about 300,000 citizens of Croatian origin in Argentina. Croatian community in Argentina is very active, espeically in the field of culture. Numerous Croatinas contributed in various ways to the prestige and wellbeing of Argentina. Probably the best known among them is Juan (Ivan) Vucetich 1858-1925, the father of the scientific dactiloscopy, that is, of identification by fingerprints.
It's not a Velvet but a Snowflake Revolution
Why a Snowflake? Simple. A snowflake is innocent, unique, gentle and clean, just like the vast majority of us. A snowflake is a child’s joy just like we all want to be joy and pride for our children because we did something for their future. But a snowflake upon snowflake, though gentle, can become a deep snow and an avalanche. Then they have a power that cannot be ignored. Croatian Hamed Bangoura started a non-violent Snowflake Revolution on Facebook, asking for fundamental change in a Croatian political arena. They expect over 50.000 snowflakes in 48 hours. Pianist Javor Bračić makes solo debut at Carnegie Hall on October 22, 2013
Since his arrival in the USA in 2009, Javor Bračić (left) has performed at various venues in New York City including the Metropolitan Museum, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall and New York Historical Society. He has been heard on WQXR classical music station (the McGraw Hill Companies Young Artists Showcase) and has recently released a CD album “Tribute to Haydn” with works written by and dedicated to Joseph Haydn.
Pope Francis and his encounters with Croatians in Argentina and Brasil
Pope Francis, as a cardinal of Buenos Aires, encountered Croatians in Argentina in various occasions. He concelebrated during a mass dedicated to blessed Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac (1898-1960). His personal confessor was Croatian Franciscan Berislav Ostojić. Operation "Storm" 1995 prevented genocide in Bihać area of BiH and liberated occupied parts of Croatia
According to Professor Slobodan Lang, distinguished Croatian peace activist, “STORM was humanitarian operation which prevented genocide.” The old Croatian mediaeval royal town of Knin was liberated in just a few days after five years of occupation. Congratulations on the occasion of Victory Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders on 5th August to citizens of Croatia and all Croatians in the world. Miro Gavran's play Night of the Gods translated into Hindi will be played in Hyderabad India on August 3rd 2013
The Croatian author Miro Gavran’s play “NIGHT OF THE GODS” will be premiered in THE TURIYA THEATRE in the Indian city of Hyderabad on August 3rd. The play has been translated into Hindi and is being directing by Bavani Ganti, while the main roles are being played by Rabul Reddy, Vinay Abhishek and Afroz Hussaini. To date “NIGHT OF THE GODS” has been played in 20 premiere performances. His works have been translated into 35 languages, and his books have come out in 150 different editions at home and abroad. His dramas and comedies have had more than 200 theatre first nights around the world and have been seen by more than two million theatre-goers.
Carmen Verlichak Croatian-Argentinean writer published a monograph El Cardenal Stepinac in Buenos Aires 2013
In 2013 Carmen Verlichak, Croatian-Argentiean writer living in Buenos Aires, wrote a monograph about Blessed Cardinal dr. Alojzije Stepinac 1898-1960, entitled El Cardenal Stepinac. It has been published by the Krivodol Press in Argentinean’s capital. This is the first monograph in Castellano about this important historical and religious figure published in South America. In 1998 Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Marija Bistrica, during his second Apostolic visit to Croatia.
Croatia – Land and People internet project of the Public Diplomacy Service and the Lexicographic Institute
We are pleased to inform the readers of the CROWN that, on the occasion of Croatia’s accession to the EU, a new website has been recently launched: www.croatia.eu, that is, “Croatia – Land and People“. It has been produced on the initiative of the Public Diplomacy Service of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, with the support of the Institute of Lexicography in Zagreb. The project has been initiated by Mr. Zvonimir Frka Petešić, head of the Public Diplomacy Service.
GLAGOLICA a European Musical Language – project by Festival Kvarner in Opatija 25-26 June 2013 Croatia
The “GLAGOLICA – A European Musical Language” project, is an awarded EU project within the framework of the Culture Programme 2007-2013. We are speaking about Croatia, which will enter the European Union on 1st of July 2013. The central theme is the Croatian recension of Old Church Slavonic literary language with its Croatian Glagolitic Script. The program includes the concerts of Katarina Livljanić (25th June, Middle Age Music) and I.G. Kovačić Choir from Zagreb (26th June, Bruckner’s Te Deum) in the city of Opatija in Istrian peninsula, both at 21:30. Croatian Glagolitic Script will be visualized by Ars Electronica from Vienna. Julija Vojkovic champion of International Competition in Middle Age Fencing in Pavone Canavese Italy
In 2013 a small Croatian group participated in the International Competition of Middle Age Fencing in Pavone Canavese Italy. And for the first time in the history of competition, a brand new team won to first places. Julija Vojkovic won the first place in fencing. She composed her fantastic dresses sewing them alone, based on old traditional, extremely elegant Croatian costumes from the region of Vrlika. Julija is professional graphic artist and designer living with her family in the city of Zagreb.
The World Festival of Animated Film in Croatia's capital Zagreb 4–9 June 2013
As many as 52 works from 16 countries submitted their applications for the 2013 Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb. The 16 selected works are characterised by the diversity of animation techniques and artistic approaches. They include abstract works like Unfettered by Canadian author Sandra Eber, Kihi-kuhi by Finn Maria Bjoerklund or Ostali tragovi by Swiss-Croatian artist Michaela Müller, as well as narrative films like Choban by Croatian filmmaker Matija Pisačić, Donijela sam kolača by another Croatian author, Ivana Pipal, and We have no tickets by Chinese artist Bao Jian. MARULIC DAYS 2013 in the city of Split in Croatia – COLLOQVIVM MARVLIANVM XXIII
The 2013 COLLOQVIVM MARVLIANVM XXIII, under the title The Heritage of Classical Antiquity in Renaissance Texts, has been organized by the Split Literary Circle – Marulianum, Split, Croatia, 19-20 April 2013. This international conference was held in the Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Split. It was a part of a much larger cultural event, The Marulić Days 2013, named after Marko Marulić 1450-1524 (Marcvs Marvlvs), a Croatian Renaissance writer, who was living in the city of Split.
Croatian Academy of America celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2013
In 1953, a group of persons dedicated to promoting Croatian history, art and culture agreed that a formal organization needed to be established to introduce to an American and Canadian scholarly audience the importance of Croatia to civilization. The Croatian Academy of America (CAA) resulted from the work of these dedicated persons. The Academy’s Journal of Croatian Studies made its first appearance seven years later, in 1960, and has been publishing ever since, showcasing the articles of hundreds of prominent scholars from North America and Croatia. Miro Gavran Croatian writer and ceremonial 300th performance of his drama in the Prague in Czech Republic
On Sunday, April 14th in Prague, Theater STUDIO DVA presented the ceremonial 300th performance of Miro Gavran’s drama ‘All About Men’, translated by Blanka Kučerova and Blanka Fišerova, and directed by Jana Janekova. Miro Gavran is a well-known author in the Czech Republic; so far, he has had twelve premieres there, as well as two published books – a drama book, and the novel ‘Judita’. Miro Gavran’s works have hitherto been translated into 35 languages, and have had over 200 permieres perfomed around the world.
Zoran Jakuc student of the University of Zagreb and his project CROM = CROATIA & ROMANIA
Mr. Zoran Jakuc, a student of the Faculty of Textile Technology (TTF) of the University of Zagreb, spent three exciting months in Romania in 2011/12, within the European student exchange, at the University of Iasi. Among others, he proposed and organized an interesting Croatian-Romanian student project, called CROM 2012, aiming to promote cultures of both countries, using fashion and textile technology. The project resulted with a rich two hour cultural program, which was a great success, registered by the Romanian TV. He was also accompanied with his two colleagues from the TTF of the University of Zagreb, Marija Damiš and Kristina Plišo.
