The head of Croatian diplomacy presented Croatia’s priorities in foreign policy – joining the European Union and NATO, cooperation in the region and bilateral cooperation with neighbouring countries, as well as positioning Croatia in international organizations and community.
Minister Grabar-Kitarovic informed the members of the Congress on the dynamics and current state of affairs of the negotiations for full membership in the EU as well as about the development of relations with NATO, the press release reads.
In reference to cooperation with the neighbouring countries, Grabar-Kitarovic pointed out that the open issues had to be resolved through bilateral relations with full respect for the principles of the international law.
At the meeting, they also discussed Croatia’s bid for non-permanent membership in the Security Council in the period 2008/2009 and the country’s active involvement in the work of other U.N. bodies, as well as about participating in the peace mission to Afghanistan.
Minister Grabar-Kitarovic informed the Congress delegates about the recent forming of the Regional Co-Operation Council (RCC) and the future role of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
Opinions were also exchanged on current events in the region, with particular reference to the resolution of the Kosovo status.
In the process, Grabar-Kitarovic emphasized that Croatia was confident that the resolution of the Kosovo status had to ensure the stability of the wider region and accord of the international community, states the MVPEI press release.
