Toše Proeski 1981 – 2007

The talented boy from Krusevo – Tose Proeski, one of the best Macedonian vocalists ever, was born on 25 January 1981 in Prilep. Prior to his death, he was a student at the final year of the Skopje Music Academy, at the solo singing department. Toše Proeski was born to a mother named Dominika and father named Nikola. Toše was best known for his trademark quote “Ve sakam site” I Love You All. Today at the early morning of October 16th, 2007, Proeski died in a car accident on the highway Zagreb-Lipovac near Nova Gradiška, Croatia. Proeski’s body arrived at midnight in Skopje Macedonia’s capital by helicopter and by car was directly transported to his home town Krusevo. Grieving citizens gathered to pay their last respects at the airport but also in the Skopje’s city square. |

Toše Proeski 1981 – 2007 In Memoriam Too good, too young, too soon, too sad to comprehend. Today is October 16th 2007. Toše endorsed Croatia and Croatians loved him back. I remember the night after the televised gala concert “Toni Cetinski and Friends” in Umag July 16th 2004, when we all gathered in a restaurant and number of people sang a cappella. Including, Toni, Toše and Klapa Sinj. Toše sang for 5 minutes and then after a huge applause another 5 minutes…and while people applauded he leaned towards me and said into my ear “It didn’t happen anywhere in the world but Croatia..that people listen in silence, when I sing, with such a respect… what a culture”. When you show heart and talent, respect comes naturally. We simply loved him. It is hard to write or do anything when you feel sad. A sad news for all who knew him. Devastating for our Macedonian friends, where Toše was a national hero. We mourn your and our loss. Rest in peace. Nenad Bach |

Velika je radost bila pozvati ga i upoznati kao sjajnog gosta humanitarno-glazbenog spektakla Najbolje od nas: Toni Cetinski i prijatelji prije tri godine u Umagu. Tada su Tose Proeski i Nenad Bach na poseban nacin ucinili koncert na glavnom teniskom stadionu u Umagu svecanoscu glazbe. Ima nesto simbolicno u tome: kao sto je Nenad Bach za domovinskog rata djelovao i kao domoljub i kao pacifista ZA regiju jugoistocne Europe a posebno za svoju rodnu Hrvatsku ziveci i radeci u Americi (Can We Go Higher?), tako je i Tose Proeski svojim angazmanom i glazbom u poslijeratnom razdoblju bivao omiljen u cijeloj regiji i obozavan u svojoj rodnoj Makedoniji a odabravsi za zivot i rad Hrvatsku. Covjek ne moze drugo nego li samo reci da je zaista privilegija biti u drustvu takvih ljudi kakvi su Proeski ili Bach. Zeljko William Krnjak |

A moment when I (Nenad) spoke with Branko Crvenkovski, president of Macedonia about Toše. From an official conversation, it became a warm friendly conversation, after we exchanged Toše’s greetings. Toše brought smile to everyone. Just a short acknowledgment: Macedonian Cultural Center in New York welcomed many Croatian artists.
