On its first issue, the Journal, which is approaching its 50th anniversary, presented itself with the text “To Our Readers”. There, the editors state that the Croatian Academy of America, established in 1953, had planned to publish a learned journal of Croatian cultural, historical, political and economic developments. This first volume of the Journal of Croatian Studies was primarily devoted to history. It was the editors’ intention to eventually present the Croatian literature, art, folklore and cultural institutions in the succeeding volumes. The Croatian Academy of America stated that it will strive to make its Journal a useful and worthwhile medium to all those engaged in research or interested in study in this field. Having as an example the contemporary American scientific efforts, the Journal of Croatian Studies and its editors shall earnestly strive to accomplish the aforementioned aims.
After so many years of publishing efforts by the Croatian Academy of America, we can say that they certainly succeeded in making the Journal of Croatian Studies a highly qualitative source of information on different aspects of Croatian culture.
Studia Croatica is proud to help in making available to a wide readership the wealth of information contained in the Journal of Croatian Studies.
