Astrid Kuljanic participating A Concert Benefiting the Syrian American Medical Society in NY Nov 29th 2016

Posted on November 2, 2016September 7, 2026 by Nenad N. Bach and Darko Žubrinić

Renowned for her complex musical sensibility and supple sound

Dear friends,

here are some of the concerts happening very soon in New York that I’m happy to be a part of:

  • Oct 30 Sunday with Klazz-ma – tazz at Tagine, close to Times Square, 7:30 – 10:30 PM, no cover

November dates with Klazz-ma-tazz at Tagine TBA

  •  Nov 4, Friday  – Fall Fiesta at International House

Singing an original work by a French-German composer Alexander Lieberman with a rhythm section and a string quartet

  • Nov 8, Tuesday, at Nublu

With Jan Kus & The Slavo-Rican Assembly, a wonderful Slovenian saxophonist who arranged folk songs and originals for his new modern jazz band

  • Nov 9 and 23 with Asaran Earth Trio at Tagine, 8-11 PM, no cover

New bi-weekly performances by Asaran Earth Trio – many people have asked me when will we be singing in NY after our tour around Europe, so as we are finishing our debut recording, we will sing at Tagine every other Wednesday for the rest of our lives 🙂

  • Nov 29, Tuesday, with Asaran Earth Trio as a part of “He Will Be Our Brother” benefit concert at Saint Peter’s Church

The concert’s title (“He will be our brother.”) was inspired by a letter of a 6-year old American boy to President  Barack  Obama. In the letter, the little boy asked to welcome Omran Daqneesh, the 5-year-old Syrian boy from Aleppo- many whose image sitting in an ambulance covered in blood and dust shocked the world- into his home in the U.S. “We will give him a family, and he will be our brother”, he said. Through his heartfelt letter, this little boy has taught us to stand for humanity that unites us all and shed light on the plight of children who are suffering under constant bombardment and siege. They are indeed our brothers, and that is what propels our will to help alleviate their suffering.
Omaran was treated at a SAMS-supported hospital in eastern Aleppo City. SAMS is a non-profit, non-political medical relief organization that is working on the front line of crisis relief in Syria and neighboring countries to save lives and alleviate suffering. In 2015, SAMS treated more than 2.6 million Syrians.
Special performances by renowned New York City musicians, including Edmar Castańeda, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Kevin Hays, Gregoire Maret, John Ellis, Matt Clohesy, Magos Herrera, Vitor Gonçalves, Rogerio Boccato and Asaran Earth Trio.
The admission is free and open to public. Hope you can join us in helping this extremely important fundraiser!

I will leave you with some memories this time, after all it’s the famous Facebook’s Throw Back Thursday, so here is Mildred’s video for Volim Te Budalo Mala, that I can’t wait to play with Mildreds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPL80YbDKCc
I hope I will see you at one of those occasions, either here in NY or back in Croatia!

Much love,
Astrid
