Karin Kuljanić made her debut at the Melodies of Istria and Kvarner festival in 1994, Croatia, with the beautiful song “Zami me sobun sakamo” (Take me with you anyhwere). As I watched the video cassette of that festival I was thinking: This voice is something else! I hope it’s here to stay. Luckily for MIK fans, it has. Employed at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Hospital Rijeka, she is also known for her charitable work.

Erazmo Ben Ticac Croatian leading planner of Savannah nuclear ship 1959
The Savannah nuclear ship, the first nuclear-powered merchant ship, was built to the plans of Erazmo Tićac 1904-1968, a Croatian born near the naval port of Rijeka. After the president Dwight Eisenhower announced his decision to build an experimental nuclear-powered merchant ship, Tićac became the leading planner. The ship was launched in 1959. On a plaque above the entrance to the ship’s lounge was written in golden letters: “Ben Tićac, naval architect”.

Srdjan Bulat shines in Valencia
On Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Xth International Guitar Competition of Alhambra, Srdjan Bulat (left) shined winning three awards at this prestigious guitar competition. He placed second overall, and won an audience award and an award for best interpretation of Spanish music. On Sunday May 16 2010 he will have free and open concert in Chicago, International House.
Moreska in Croatia the last authentic sword dance in the Mediterranean
The moreška dance on the island of Korčula in Croatia can be played only by those for whom at least one parent is from the island. The dance dates from the Middle Ages, and together with the house of Marko Polo represents one of the chief attractions of the island. The Sound of Music, von Trapp and Croatia
The Sound of Music , a well known film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, deals with the life of Georg von Trapp who was born in Zadar in 1880. This is a true story of a war captain, dedicated to his family, the navy, the sea, different ships and submarines, etc. But it also contains many beautiful descriptions of the places and people he met along the entire Adriatic coast.
Lipik presented in the cultural magazine Croatian Review
The city of Lipik was presented in Croatian Review, a cultural and political magazine that was first published in 1928. From 1945 to 1950 the magazine was prohibited. Thanks to the Croatian emigrants Vinko Nikolić and Antun Bonifačić, the magazine came back to life in Argentina. In the years between 1951 and 1990 it was published in Buenos Aires and Paris and then in Munich and Barcelona. Since 1991 it has been published in Zagreb by Matica Hrvatska.

Vjekoslav Sutej 1951-2009 distinguished Croatian conductor
Vjekoslav Šutej was born in Rijeka, Croatia. He has conducted concerts with famous opera stars: José Carreras, Montserrat Caballé, Diana Ross, Placido Domingo, Roman Vargas, Mario Guleghin, etc. He also directed the first four concerts Christmas in Vienna with Placido Domingo and José Carreras. So far, more than a million copies of compact disks from these concerts have been sold. He founded the Royal Symphonic Orchestra in Sevilla, Spain.
